| Why concrete?
Because you can! Concrete is preferred by many clients who are seeking
a different look or a distinct shape and are tired of the usual
granite. Compared to soapstone, slate, marble and limestone, concrete
is a harder and less porous choice.
How much do they cost?
Our precast concrete is similar to stone, from $80 to $90 per sq
ft. However, unlike granite for example, we do not charge extra
for curves, unusual shapes, sink and cooktop cut-outs, etc. Depending
upon the shape and size of the concrete required, we can be considerably
less. Of course, it isn’t just a case of economics as much
of what we create, like our integral sinks, cannot be made in stone.
Do they crack?
We are unique in the industry in that we warranty against structural
cracking. Hairline cracks, though uncommon, can occur in narrow
areas and are usually considered an enhancing characteristic. They
are virtually invisible from 3 feet away and do not compromise the
sealer.
Are they sealed?
Most of our customers choose our penetrating sealer which is USDA
approved for food contact. This gives good stain resistance while
still maintaining the fabulous tactile quality of the product. A
topical sealer is another option.
Do they stain?
They can do but unlike granite, concrete is not meant to remain
immaculate. In the same manner as hardwood floors or a harvest table,
marks are generally considered an enhancing characteristic and the
counter develops a patina with use. Unlike natural stone, concrete
can also be refinished or repaired if required.
Will they be too heavy for my cabinets?
No! Our standard concrete weighs almost the same as granite. No
special reinforcement is normally required.
